DEJA hails from Zuerich, Switzerland , he is a bi- lingual hip hop artist, producer, engineer, who has made Vancouver his home for the past 2yrs. DEJA works with the homeless population, runs a very successful hip hop workshop with street kids, and has just opened his own studio which is already generating customers like Don Castro's Teflon Gang, Jack Mercer, a local folk musician and a Hip Hop Artists from Switzerland like, SanOg.
Coming from a past of battling in the Swiss underground hip hop scene, where shit is done quite different than it is here, you can be sure that the flare he brings to the music scene here will be un stoppable. DEJA produced an Album called “Voice of the Streets” which features 12 full length tracks about drugs, crime, police, prostitution, broken families, abuse and more. The songs were written by 2 of the rappers from his hip hop workshop, DEJA, D.I.M, THA MARA and more. They all wrote about personal experience or stories in which they have witnessed, or been told. This album created an instant buzz around the DTES community as everyone who listened felt a close connection with one or all of the stories from this album. Global TV, 24 Hour news paper, CBC Radio and more picked up the story and interviewed DEJA as well as some of the other artists. The song “Voice of the Streets” received air time on CBC Early Edition Radio Show and a local radio show on CITR – The album was written and recorded in only 2 weeks, so it could be done in time for the “Eastside Music Festival” put on by the Downtown Eastside Youth Activities Society- It has been mixed and mastered for YPE’s launch of it’s sale which all proceeds will be donated to various youth activity programs in the DTES, ** SOON** There were 100 copies sold at the festival and another 50 requested afterwards.
Currently DEJA has been making and recording the tracks for his upcoming album “Spiritual Warfare” which will have a focus on his spiritual and political beliefs of this current world, and his struggles with personal and musical growth. This will be his first solo English album, and will be written and produced by himself, also DEJA and his friend/ fellow rapper SanOg are in the studio writing a some thuggin swiss tracks. Going back to his roots, these will be sure to pop off in Switzerland as soon as they are launched.
In the coming months DEJA is looking to team up with NoFutureFace who has been featured in Abort & Exclaim Magazines, Teflon Gang, and Big Nick .
