The band took the name from Chuck Palahniuk’s cult novel “Fight Club” whose main anti-heroine character Marla Singer perfectly fits the psychological profile of the lonely and isolated victims of our time depicted in the band’s lyrics.
The band formed in 2002 in Siena, south Tuscany. The band’s line up is Francesco Guasconi (vocals, guitar), Cosimo Zannelli (lead guitar), Alessandro Guasconi (bass guitar), Emilio Sapia (keyboards), Marco Gammarota (drums, percussions).
The band raised interest in the italian music scene by winning the 2003 edition of Sanremo Rock Festival & Trend and was critically acclaimed
by record executives and popular music magazines. In the following months the band recorded a few demo songs and begun to collaborate with their future producer Luca Pernici.
In 2004 Marla Singer signed to independent label Artenativa and released the debut album which was promoted by Barley Arts. The band started a promotional tour playing more dates than ever before and at bigger venues including a number of shows supporting The Cure, Alterbridge, Ulan Bator and Crucified Barbara. They also played at Flippaut Festival together with Prodigy, Audioslave and Slipknot.
In September 2004 the band released their first single "Senza Luce e Colore"; the videoclip was shown on popular italian TV channels such as MTV, All Music and Rock TV.
In 2007 after leaving Artenativa/Barley Arts and setting up their own record label Horus Music, the band begun to record their second album which was released in April 2010.

Tempi Di Crisi is the new studio album by Italian rock band Marla Singer, released in April 2010 on RockOver Records/Horus Music Group.
The album features a powerful modern rock style marked with dark/ crossover and elettronic/prog rock influences, incorporating elements reminiscent of ambient-ish post-rock music and echoes of the eighties.
In times of a world-wide financial and identity crisis the lyrics mirror the impact of spiritual and moral decay on modern society exposed in all its shallowness.
The whole album is infused with the theme of appearance versus reality and focuses on the extent to which modern cultures exhibit an individualistic approach to society, tending to value personal achievement and private wealth accumulation.
