Born Mark Wright to two teen parents on February 16, 1992. Raised on the northside he came up in a rough environment. Growing up with separated parents didn't seem like an issue in his early childhood. Even though his father heavy in the streets, Mark was well taken care of. As he came up he was exposed to a lifestyle that most kids were in his city, drugs, money, and violence, but was too young realize what was going on. At the same time Mark learned right from wrong from his great-grandmother and step-mother. When he was 10 years old his mother got custody of him from court. He was forced to move to southside St. Louis with his mother. There he made friends and started rapping for the fun.

After a year and a half went by he moved back to Omaha. That year he moved back he met his friends Markel(Kello), Marcus(Mills) and Quiene. Those three friends got him into rapping. They all would freestyle after school on the bus. Of course they were a little better than him. So after a while he got better and better. As he got older he wanted to branch his musical talent. Mark got into djing when he got his first set of turntables.

When another 2 years went by he moved back to St. Louis with his mother. There he went to Ladue Middle School in the county. When school started he had a class called Music Technology where he met Chris Mems(Doe Boy) and Chris Smith(Sizzle). In that class he was noticed by Doe Boy and Sizzle for his skills with working the music equipment. From the there he got serious about music. His mother had bought him a computer and got software for him to record music and produce beats. Shortly after he met Doe Boy and Sizzle he met Jordan Ware(J-Ware). J-Ware and Yay met on orientation day but did not become friends yet. Jordan had shown Yay that he could spit so introduced him to Chris and Chris. They all formed a group called the Heat Squad. Mark had adopted the name 2Face for djiing and came up with Lil' Yay out of the blue as a rap name. So from there on out he went by Lil' Yay. After being there for Lil' Yay, Doe Boy, and Sizzle recorded their first song together called "Leanin". Once all his equipment was set-up properly, he held sessions in his apartment. Yay also started making beats. As there year went by he also developed a better friendship with J-Ware. For a while the were on rough edges about each other over rumors.
